Pro-slots group begins effort in Anne Arundel
Voters in Maryland approved the building of five new casinos in the state in a 2008 vote, and they are now getting down to the business of where to build them. Plans are in motion for the biggest of these five casinos, but it is meeting with some resistance. Supporters of the casino are quick to point out that the slots will bring much needed jobs and tax revenue to Anne Arundel Country, the proposed home for this casino and it’s 4,750 machines. The United States and it’s gambling laws are a bit of a confusing paradox. The US is home to Las
Vegas and Atlantic City, two of the biggest gambling centers in the world, and yet online casinos are illegal in the US. It seems odd that online pokies would be illegal anywhere where the real thing is so close at hand, and yet they are. In addition to this, gambling laws anywhere outside of special designated areas like Las Vegas are incredibly restrictive. In the UK, or indeed much of Europe, it’s not at all unusual to find a slots game or two at the local pub, but this isn’t the case in the US. At the end of the day though, gambling is big money and any place that restricts it will lose out.
